When a tooth is lost to a severe cavity or extraction, it can limit your ability to efficiently chew food. If the tooth was in the front of your mouth, its loss can alter your appearance and even cause you to slur your speech.

As time passes, the neighboring teeth might start to drift and change their position in response to the gap. This can cause dental fractures and loss of enamel on the nearby teeth.

One way to prevent these complications and restore the full function of your mouth is to have Dr. Jing Yang install a bridge. A bridge is a single piece of dental work that replicates the original tooth. It is fused to a pair of crowns that will eventually be anchored on abutments formed from the cores of the two closest teeth.

During your first appointment, Dr. Yang will remove the enamel from each of the adjacent teeth to form a pair of abutments. This creates a small protective sheath of dentin, surrounding the sensitive internal structure of the tooth.

The doctor will then take a detailed impression of the abutments and any corresponding teeth in your bite pattern. This will be sent to a professional dental lab to help guide their technicians as they produce your new dental bridge.

You will need to return for a brief second appointment when the dental bridge is ready. Dr. Yang will then use a strong dental adhesive to cement the bridge onto the abutments.
